  • Who needs a refuge?

I know for me as a young girl in middle school and high school, I tried to find my comfort in things and people.
I put my hope in guys and thought that they would make me feel safe, happy, wanted and loved. What I found was that they didn’t and couldn’t fill the gaping hole in my heart.

  • From "Limo" to "Lightning"

Editor’s note: Nancy Kennedy is on vacation this week. Her husband requested this column from 2004 about his 1968 Ford Falcon station wagon be rerun. He still misses that car. Nancy doesn’t.

Although a brand new Ford F-150 “Lightning” pickup truck tops my husband’s list of dream vehicles, his eyes still mist whenever anyone mentions ‘the limo.”

    CYNTHIANA PRESBYTERIAN
On Sunday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m., Cynthiana Presbyterian Church will be hosting a potluck supper and entertainment will follow. Astounding us that evening will be Richard Osterlind-Mentalist, entertainer and author. His show is one of the most mystifying, entertaining and up-lifting presentations one can imagine! Everyone is welcome.
The church is located at 103 N. Main St. (across from the library). Parking is in the rear of the church. For more information call the church office at 234-2961.

  • Where is God when I hurt?

I love my children and grandchildren as I know you do as well.

  • Moms in waiting

Years ago, my friend Becky in Texas excitedly announced that her son was “only” smoking pot.
She asked, “What kind of a mom gets excited because her kid is ‘only’ smoking pot?”
The kind of mom whose kid had been doing cocaine and other hard drugs.

  • Flinging our cares away

When we moved to Florida from California 23 years ago, we did so with only the things we could fit into two vehicles.
That meant getting rid of 15 years’ worth of possessions to start over, which was both sad and exciting.
I especially hated parting with the coffee table my husband had accidentally autographed.
He tends to write hard and had been signing checks. After that, at a certain angle you could see a half-dozen “Barry Kennedy” indentations in the table top.

  • Looking forward to it

I remember an old friend of my dad. His name was Bill. I miss him.
Years ago when I would visit my dad, the three of us would go to breakfast together. My dad and he would talk about the years that they worked together in air traffic control and the world war that they both served in.
Bill had such a great attitude. He told me about how he and a German woman forgave each other.
Bill met this woman who had a strong foreign accent. She told him that she was German. He then said, “You’ll have to forgive me.” She said, “Why?”
