    Benson United Methodist invites all children to Vacation Bible School. The fun will begin on Thursday, June 21 and end Saturday, June 23.  The times will be Thursday and Friday - 6-8 p.m. and Saturday - 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Come join us as we learn “To Listen” and “To Serve” Jesus in our daily lives.

  • Happiness can’t be found through a pin board

    Are you on Pinterest?
    “What’s that?” you ask. Oh, honey, where have you been?
    Pinterest is an online bulletin board/scrap book/wish list site where you “pin” pictures of things you see elsewhere on the Web that you like.
    Puppies and kittens and fluffy clouds, cupcakes from Sprinkles in New York, sandals on sale at DSW, the beach at Turks and Caicos.

  • A day of washing

    It was a good day for a baptism, a warm Wednesday evening about two years ago.
    Her name was Minnie and she lived by a lake. She had invited her Methodist pastor and all her friends to come to her baptism, right there at the lake where she lived.
    She joked that she had a pile of rocks at the water’s edge to throw at the alligators in case they got too curious or hungry.
    Thankfully, she didn’t need them.

    Berry Methodist Church, Berry, Ky., will be hosting a Fish Fry and Gospel Sing on Friday, June 8 at the 4-H fairgrounds. Meal will begin at 5 p.m. and the music will start at 6 p.m. The community is invited.

    Spring revival will be held June 8-10 with Bro. Lonny Mattingly at Faith Baptist Church, U.S. 27 South. Evening services Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m, and both services Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

  • RICHLAND BAPTIST VBS

    Richland Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School June 4-8. There will be classes for pre-school thru 12th grade. Bible School will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. The curriculum will be based on, “Lessons from Jesus,” with the Bible School taking on a “Survivor” theme.

  • 1,864 reminders of why Christ came to this world

    They’re called Crosses of Mercy, three tall crosses — two pale blue and one gold — planted across at least 29 states and Washington, D.C., plus Zambia and the Philippines.
    Where I live in Florida, I’ve seen several sets of them and I’ve always wondered about them since they don’t seem to be connected to any one church. They’re usually out in the middle of nowhere, randomly planted on the highway.

    Union Street will be in concert on June 3 at 6 p.m. at Leesburg Christian Church
    Union Street quartet, featuring well-known gospel artists Ryan Seaton (former lead for Signature Sound) and Aaron McCune (former bass with Gold City), are making a return visit to Harrison County. This group brings some of the best four-part harmony in gospel music. They will be joined by guest pianist, Roy Webb.

    In my family we have this thing we say about our mom dropping us on our heads as babies.
    Not that she ever did — that I’m aware of — although she has admitted to tossing my oldest brother over her shoulder accidentally a bit too vigorously, catching him by his foot before he could crash to the floor.
    No harm, no foul, as they say.

  • Bad week, Good news

    The other day a co-worker posted on Facebook that it had been the week from hell.
    We had all felt it. It was as if a black cloud hovered over us, raining down all kinds of bad.
    We had made mistakes. Tempers flared. Fingers pointed.
    Cranky people called, which didn’t help our own crankiness.
    We scowled. We skulked. We wished we were anywhere but here.
    It was one b-a-d week.
    One of my favorite children’s books is “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” by Judith Viorst.
