  • Life comes at us, but it's in His control

The last time I wrote in this spot, I was lamenting the fact that my eldest child was graduating from high school.
I was not ready for one of my children to be an adult and leave home. Funny thing though, whether I was ready or not, it has happened.

  • Go ahead and laugh

    In 1998, I had a bad week.

  • Every church needs a red door

One day last week I heard some people on a podcast talking about celebrities’ lifestyle Websites, like Gwenyth Paltrow’s “Goop.”

  • “Encouragement from a Little Friend”

The gifts of life come to us from persons of all ages.  Jesus must have realized this when he suggested that the children around would often lead us.
I recently shared with my church family an incident in my life that verified this truth. I was getting ready to play our over 40 soccer game at Masterson Station in Lexington, when I began to count up the eligible players.
I felt a sense of panic when I realized I was the 11th body there that day.

  • Let's get out of control

In January 2013 I was blessed to be able to go to the Holy Land with our Bishop, Lindsey Davis and His wife, Jennifer Mink Davis. There were many who also attended this journey and came from all parts of Kentucky. We all met in Philadelphia and traveled together on one big plane. It was a long flight which took about 13 hours before landing in Israel. Our flight left very late that evening, and once I boarded the aircraft, even though very excited, I prepared myself to go to sleep for the beginning of the flight.

  • Hampton honored for 50 years as church organist

A 50-year celebration will be held to honor Patsy Palmer Hampton on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 10:45 a.m. at Republican Christian Church.
Hampton has given 50 years of service to her church. She began playing the organ at church when she was 15 years old.
Hampton said she began taking piano lessons from Irene Smith, who played for the First United Methodist Church in Cynthiana, when she was in the first grade. She continued taking lessons through high school and even one college class. Each of the other four Palmer sisters also took piano lessons from Mrs. Smith.

  • Ode to the Greatly Offended among us

One night several weeks ago, my husband said good night, ran into the bedroom and locked the door — something he’s done dozens of times, always in a playful, good-natured way, always unlocking it within seconds.
