  • Daddy, save me from my shadow

“Daddy, Daddy,” were the words I heard seconds before I felt a tightening grip on my legs as my frightened 2-year-old son, David, wanted me to save him from his shadow.

  • It's the party, dummy

You know what really irks me? When people at work don’t turn off the bathroom light when they’re done.
Our company is trying to reduce expenses and one of the easiest things to do is Turn. Off. The. Light!

  • Asking tough questions of faith

Years ago I did a funeral for a 4-week-old baby girl. It was difficult. The family had started attending our church prior to the baby being born. We had a baby shower for the mother. She really felt loved and embraced by our church.
When the baby died, she was devastated. She had questions about God allowing this to happen.

  • Who needs a refuge?

I know for me as a young girl in middle school and high school, I tried to find my comfort in things and people.
I put my hope in guys and thought that they would make me feel safe, happy, wanted and loved. What I found was that they didn’t and couldn’t fill the gaping hole in my heart.

  • From "Limo" to "Lightning"

Editor’s note: Nancy Kennedy is on vacation this week. Her husband requested this column from 2004 about his 1968 Ford Falcon station wagon be rerun. He still misses that car. Nancy doesn’t.

Although a brand new Ford F-150 “Lightning” pickup truck tops my husband’s list of dream vehicles, his eyes still mist whenever anyone mentions ‘the limo.”

  • Where is God when I hurt?

I love my children and grandchildren as I know you do as well.
