The 4th Annual Licking Valley Campus Writers Conference was held Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29.
On Friday, Maurice Manning kicked -off the event by teaching a class “Internal Mechanics of Writing and Meaningful Structure” to attendees before the Gala dinner.
The Gala dinner was held at The Prizing House. Music was provided by Russ Ward and Dr. Larry Albert. Sherry Chandler, Kentucky poet, introduced Manning, the keynote speaker.
The award winners for the 2012 Licking River Writers Writing Contest were announced.

The Kathleen Hill Award for Adult Poetry, third place: Amanda Hooper, second Place: Evan Duszynski, First place: Todd King; The Slone-Crumbie Award for Adult Fiction, third place: David Snell, second place: Mark Mattmiller, first place: Anna Spear;
The Webber Award for Adult Non-Fiction, presented by William Webber, third place: Shawn Combs, second place: Jinger Brunner, first place: Tamera Hicks; The Award for Adult Inspirational Fiction, second place: Amanda Sharpe, first place: Tamera Hicks;
The Award for Adult Inspirational Non-Fiction, second place: John Jordan, first place: Sandy Hamilton. Also, recipients of the Mike Mullins Memorial Award and The Lane Award were announced.
In Memoriam: Celebrating the Life of Mike Mullins was presented by K. Bruce Florence to Marilynn Bell. The Grand Prize of the Lane Award was presented by Sarah Kinney and awarded to Wm. Todd King.
On Saturday, the conference continued with Master classes being taught at the Licking Valley Campus with over 40 people in attendance. Master classes were “The New Journalism” with Merlene Davis, “Fiction: Long & Short” with Crystal Wilkinson, “Words in Dramatic Literature” with Lauren Argo, “Poetry” with Diane Gilliam, “Creative Non-Fiction” with Bob Johnson, “Self-Publishing” with Chrissie Anderson Peters and “Yes, You Can! Self- Editing” with Bud Blanton.
