Births announced this week are: Catherine Kelly Griffieth, Jan. 24, daughter of Melvin and April Griffieth; Cameron Riley Kinsey, Dec. 24, son of Brian and Jamie Kinsey; Ethan Chandler Lewis, Jan. 23, son of Chris and Candida Lewis; Hunter Wayne Platt, Jan. 9, son of Timothy Wayne and Rachel Rena Platt; Jonathan David Swenson, Jan. 18, son of Stephanie and Eric Swenson; Nolan Zachary Wagner, Jan. 16, son of John Wagner Jr. and Jessica Crump.
City officials deemed the Cook Pike landfill too costly to continue to operate, it closed in May 1992. Finals papers were released in April 2000 declaring the landfill closed. Three trips to the landfill daily is made to pump leachate from two holding tanks.

The Industrial Foundation’s real-estate closings are expected soon on a 40-acre industrial site along New Lair Road. The land is being bought from Charles Woods, Christine Woods and Margaret Woods for $233,214.25.

An explosion brought approximately $600 in damages to a huge boiler at the Kawneer plant. Cause of the explosion is believed to have been improper functioning of a main gas valve. The thundering blast could be heard throughout Cynthiana.
