-A A +A

Kary JuJuanna Sams joined the Navy in 1987 and was on board the USS Puget Sound AD-38 for 3 ½ years as a boat swain’s mate.
She served in Desert Storm and says, “It was definitely a powerful experience.”
She came home from the Navy in order to care for her mother.
Sams is a veteran attending the Licking Valley Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College.
She has finished her Certified Nurses Aide and Kentucky Medicine Aide  and is now working on her credential in Phlebotomy.
She is a member of the Vocational Rehabilitation and Education Program and is hoping to work at the VA hospital in the future.
She works in Paris at the Monessen Hearth as a turret operator.
Sams came to MCTC in 2009 and says, “I needed a change and wanted to better myself.  Now that mom is older and disabled, I wanted to ensure my mom gets the best care I could provide. This was my main motivation for going back to school. It is still the most important, but I now have even more reasons. ”
Maysville Community and Technical College offers assistance programs for veterans.  Please contact the Licking Valley Campus at 859-234-8626 extension 66426 for more information.
