To the editor:

The overwhelming support of this community for our Harrison County Baseball Thorobreds is beyond words. Numerous telephone calls, notes of congratulations, e-mails, Facebook messages, visits to homes, people stopping coaches, players and their families in places of business to talk about our tremendous accomplishment are indicative of the pride and happiness this team has allowed us to experience. Setting attendance records and breaking our own records at a statewide athletic event is an unbelievable feat for a community of this population. What a joy to be part of this excitement and live in Harrison County.

In what other community are people and businesses so gracious with their time and donations during these difficult times, knowing how necessary it is to support these efforts and who are so appreciative of its success? Name another town or city where its local radio station sends personnel to other cities and states to broadcast a high school baseball game so fans unable to attend may listen? Who can boast a newspaper that covers the game and highlights players with full page color photos and detailed accounts of their many talents and abilities to succeed? It is absolutely the greatest feeling to know there is so much support and enthusiasm for these young men.

On behalf of the entire Breds coaching staff and players, please know that our sincerest thank-you continues year round and we appreciate each and every person, business and fan, because you are the reason for our success. I am deeply honored to have been coach of this program for all these years.

Mac Whitaker

Head Coach of the Breds Baseball Team
