To the editor:
This letter is an open letter to the residents of Harrison County.
On May 20, Journey Medical Mission celebrated our third anniversary of operations as a free medical clinic for the uninsured, low income, residents of Harrison County. We have had 1,795 visits in our medical clinic, and have met the needs of 600 individual patients.
We partner with many different medical community partners throughout Central Kentucky to work toward reduced free services, and in some cases free medical services. Our Medical Director is Dr. Henry Norfleet. He and Dr. Amy Mashburn are routinely the medical providers at JMM. Many civic organizations and local businesses have been generous in their support. We are very appreciative.
To be accepted at the medical mission/clinic, patients must meet certain qualifications such as; you must be a resident of Harrison County currently, show prooof of residency, have no health insurance and be low income. The appointment phone number is 235-0063 and instructions are on the phone. The clinic is open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings. Volunteers return phone calls during the week, as well.
The mission is staffed by an all volunteer staff. We have many dedicated persons from throughout the community. Volunteers work the mission on Thursday evenings. Many of our volunteers have worked a full day at their regular job before the clinic starts. They come to the clinic after 4 p.m. and do not leave until 8 or 9 p.m. Many of our local churches or local organizations volunteer by bringing a meal to the clinic for the volunteers. Please contact the clinic number if you, your church, or your organization wish to volunteer.
In order to maintain this vital service to the community, it takes different funding sources. There are many costs associated with this endeavor. The costs range from office supplies, cleaning supplies, insurance and medical supplies, to name a few. Journey Medical Mission is a 501(c)3 organization and all contributions are tax deductible. Your financial contributions would be greatly appreciated and would allow this vital medical service to continue.
Please send your contributions to Journey Medical Mission, 203 W. Pike St., P.O. Box 686, Cynthiana, Ky. If you have any questions, please call us at 235-0063.
Dr. Henry Norfleet, Medical Director
