The Harrison County tennis teams took care of business Wednesday as they handled the Paris High School tennis teams 5-0 for the Fillies and 3-2 for the Thorobreds.
The Fillies singles matches were contrasting in that Harrison County won the three matches that counted for the team score and lost the matches that did not count toward the overall team outcome.
This, of course, has to do with how the players are paired by the coaches. Paris is coming off of a rebuilding season and is improving but the Fillies were able to win the match without a loss in the match score match ups.
Sofiya Tumska won the No. 1 singles match over Honeycutt of Paris 6-0 and 6-2.
Bryson Clifford took the No. 2 match by an 8-0 score over Leittle, and Melony Dunaway won the final match by an 8-5 verdict over Baker.
The other singles matches on this cool, windy afternoon saw Emmalee Lutes fall 0-8 to Roberts, Sara Besson dropped her match to Cain 2-8 and Kinsey King lost to Leittle in an exhibition match 0-8.
The Thorobreds had a little more difficulty but still pulled out the 3-2 team victory.
Jacob Markley continued his strong season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jackson of Paris in the No. 1 singles match.
Aaron Tackett breezed by Leer 8-1 and youthful Boston Pergram edged Ramsey 8-6.
The doubles competition was close with one match going to a tie breaker but the Paris squad managed to win both of the matches.
Johnny Mitchell and Josh Boggs fell to Gibson and West by scores of 2-6 and 3-6 while Austin Merriman and Pergram dropped their match by the tie breaker score of 8-9.
Jonah Case and Matt Seevers lost an exhibition match to Jones and Moore by a 4-8 count.
Tuesday night the tennis teams beat the storm playing a match with the Mason County squads.
This night was most successful for the Fillies as they won by a 4-1 score.
The Fillies, with this victory, remain undefeated in region play for the season.
Singles winners were Tumska 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) and Clifford 6-3, 6-1 while the Mason County doubles team forfeited.
Sara Ledford and Alexis Lanza dropped their doubles match 3-6, 0-6. Dunaway lost in her singles match 0-6, 1-6.
The Thorobreds only winner Tuesday night was No. 1 singles player Markley who won 6-1, 6-1.
Tackett dropped a close one 6-2, 5-7, 2-6 and Boggs fell 2-6 and 4-6.
The next scheduled match for the tennis team is Thursday at Clark County.
