On Aug. 21, Preceptor Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi celebrated Beginning Day with all members attending a salad supper at the home of Bonnie Teater. Pat Terhune, president, announced that the first meeting of the year would be held at the home of Ann Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Terhune distributed the New Year books and outlined some of the plans for the coming year.
The regular monthly meeting was held at the home of Ann Hall. Terhune acallled the meeting to order with all members in attendance. Roll call was answered with an old saying or quote that you use to express yourself. Judy Judy, recording secretary, read the minutes of the previous meeting.
Each chairman gave committee reports. The social committee reminded everyone of the outing to Keeneland in October. Ways and Means announced that they would be selling pull-tabs on Oct. 15 to earn money to support our scholarship program. The service project of the month was for everyone to bring a case of food to help replenish the food pantry.
Judy shared a Certificate of Appreciation from the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in honor of her 50 years of service as a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
The theme for the year is ‘You are among friends.’ Hall gave the program and reflected on the different kinds of friends we have in our circle of friends. She used a book that had been given to her by her Secret Sister in 1998 to share some thought provoking quotes. She also read from a book titled “Friends are Forever.”
Plans were made to gather all scrapbooks and keep them in a central location in order to try to preserve the history of Beta Sigma Phi in Cynthiana.
The next meeting will be at the home of Charlene Dawson on Oct. 1.
