Pairings announced for

10th Region boys

The draw for the 10th Region Tournament was held Sunday and the Harrison County Thorobreds will open the first session Thursday at 6:30 p.m. facing region favorite George Rogers Clark. The two teams met in Clark County on Jan. 12, with the Cardinals handing the Breds an 86-29 defeat. George Rogers Clark’s record is 24-6 while the Breds come into the region with a 16-12 mark.

The rest of the draw has Scott High (17-9) facing Bracken County (19-11) in the second game Thursday night slated at 8 p.m. On Friday, Pendleton County (16-13) faces Montgomery County (18-10) at 6:30 p.m. and Mason County (20-6) battles Bishop Brossart (19-6) at 8 p.m. 

The winners face off Saturday, March 6, at 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with the championship game being played on Monday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. All games will be at the Field House in Mason County.

Sutherland book signing

Jock Sutherland book signing will be Saturday at the Christian Book Store

A book signing for the book, “Jock, A Coach’s Story,” by Stewart Warner, will be held Saturday, March 6, at the Christian Book Store on Main Street in Cynthiana. Sutherland and the author will be in the book store 2-4 p.m. to greet the public and sign copies of the book. The book details Sutherland’s rise to an iconic high school coach and sportscaster. 

Everyone is urged to attend especially former basketball players from the Sutherland era at HCHS.

Track team in indoor meet

at Mason County

The Harrison County track team participated in an indoor track meet Saturday at Mason County. This was a meet with many participants both with teams and running independently. 

The Thorobred squad finished seventh in the male competition. Austin Lucas was the only individual winner as he heaved the shot put 43’7.5” to take the victory. Jacob Marsh took a sixth place finish in the 800 meters and ran a leg of the 3200 meter relay team that finished sixth. Joe Thomas, Nick Whitaker, and Tyler Martin also ran legs in this event.  They were timed at 9:59.9 for the 3200 meters. The 1600 meter relay team took seventh place as Daniel Cullen, Tyler Martin, Chris Muntz and Kyle Migneaullt ran the distance in 4:11.6.

The Fillies squad finished ninth as they had three girls place in their events. Danni Kemplin had a personal best of 09.74 as she finished second in the 55M high hurdles. Haley Carr took third in the high jump as she soared to a leap of 4’8”.  Catherine Darnell finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 4’2”. 

Coaches Robert Walker and Danny Simpson guided the teams as they participated Saturday. 

“This was great experience for our athletes competing in such a large meet with so much competition, said Coach Simpson. “They worked hard and came through for us, many with personal bests.”

The Mason Dixon Games this Saturday in Louisville will wrap up the indoor season.

Last weekend for baseball sign ups

This Saturday, March 6, will be the last day for recreation youth baseball and softball sign ups. The hours are like the last several weeks, 2-4 p.m., at Sports Unlimited on Connersville Road. This is for Little League, Coach Pitch, T-Ball, Pigtail Softball and Instructional Softball. Recreation Director Rick Chasteen asks that everyone make an effort to sign up this weekend.
