Breds 2009 Football schedule released

Paris High School, tradition-rich over the past 30 years, but win-starved in the last five, will be returning to the Harrison County High School football schedule for the 2009 grid campaign. The Greyhounds will be the Thorobreds opponent for the first game that will be played at the new HCHS football field on Sept. 4.

The 2009 schedule features five regular season home games, including only one district contest on Oct. 9 against Bourbon County.  The other home games for the Breds will be Sept. 18 against Covington Scott, Sept. 25 against Mason County, and Oct. 30 against Mercer County.

The road games that the Breds will have include playing Montgomery County in the Recreation Bowl on Aug. 22, going to Newport High School on Sept. 11, playing at Bardstown on Oct. 2, and playing at Pendleton County on Oct. 16 and Franklin County on Oct. 23 in the Breds other two district contests.

“I’m excited about the schedule for next year,” said Thorobreds Head Coach Aaron Stepp, who will be entering his second season at the helm. “We have added a few teams that Harrison County hasn’t played in the past and we have four former state championship teams on the schedule.”

Those teams that have won state titles in the past are Paris, Bardstown, Bourbon County and most recently Mercer County.

Wrestling invitational this weekend

The annual Harrison County Wrestling Invitational will be held this Saturday at the Harrison County Middle School. Coach Russ Riegel’s Thorobreds will play host as nearly 10 teams are expected to participate this year. Weigh-ins are slated to begin at 9 a.m. with wrestling to follow at 10.
