Meet the new football coach

The Harrison County Football Alumni and football parents will be hosting a reception to introduce the new Harrison County High School football coach Aaron Stepp.

The reception will be held Monday, June 30, at 7 p.m. at Ingles Stadium. In the event of rain, the reception will be moved to the high school cafeteria.

All are welcome to attend and meet the new coach and his family.

2008 HCHS football activities planned

Sports physicals for Harrison County High School football players will be held July 10 at 4 p.m. in the weight room.

On July 11 at 4 p.m. there will be a conditioning practice.

On July 14 at 4 p.m., players will start mandatory practice.

The week of Aug. 1-5, players will be attending a team camp at the University of the Cumberlands and everyone must attend. Cost is $140 per player.

A kick-off picnic is planned for players, coaches and families on July 13 at 4 p.m. at the Boy Scout Camp on County Infirmary Road, pass the airport. The boosters will be providing the meat. Seniors should bring a dessert, sophomores bring a salad, and juniors and freshmen bring drinks. Spirit packs will be ordered at this time and this year they must be paid for in advance, no exceptions.

Start date set for Fillies soccer

Harrison County High School Fillies soccer practice will officially begin Tuesday, July 15, 2008.

The first practice of the season will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lebus Field. All girls entering grades six to 12 at Harrison County Middle School and Harrison County High School who are interested in playing soccer should attend this first practice in full soccer gear.

There will be a parent meeting on this day at 8:30 p.m. A calendar of events will be given out at this time.

HCHS volleyball tryouts set for July

Tryouts for the Harrison County High School Volleyball team will be held July 15, 16, and 17 for freshmen and JV varsity girls, and will be held at the Harrison County Middle School (due to the high school construction).

Freshmen tryouts will be from 5-7 p.m. each night and JV Varsity will be from 7-9 p.m.

Tryouts for the team is open to all HCHS girls.

Harrison County Softball Camp coming

The Harrison County Youth Softball Camp will be held July 21-23 from 5:30-8:30 nightly at Shirley Field on the Hilltop. The camp will be directed by HCHS softball coach Christine Garnett and will be open to all girls ages 9-14. Cost for the camp will be $60 per person, with a family discount availbale for families sending more than one camper. For a registration form, or for more information, contact Coach Garnett at 859-298-9700.

HCMS football practice

Any sixth, seventh, and eighth graders who want to play football must have a sports physical. Forms are at the Harrison County Middle School and may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Practice starts Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. at the practice field. T-shirts, shorts, and spikes or gym shoes are required.

The teams first game is Aug. 23 against Danville Middle at Clark County.

Mike Reitz Basketball Camp

Harrison County High School basketball coach Mike Reitz has set the dates for his summer Youth Basketball Camp. The Hot Fun in the Summertime basketball camp will be held July 14 thru July 17 at the Harrison County Middle School. Grades K-6 will be held from 8:30 till 11 a.m. daily with kids in grades 7-11 in the afternoons from 1 til 4.

Red Cross Swimming Lessons

American Red Cross Swimming Lessons will be held at the Cynthiana Country Club Swimming Pool.
