Cynthiana Fire Chief Jay Sanders is reminding people to be cautious when using space heaters.
Firefighters were called to 139 E. Pike St. for an electrical fire in the basement of Shao Lin Karate.
According to Sanders, the fire started inside the breaker box and had already burned through a 2x12 board when firefighters arrived.
“Luckily someone was in the building,” Sanders said.
The source was traced to a second floor apartment where residents were using two space heaters to warm the apartment, Sanders said.
