Songwriter event attracts popular musicians

Once again, talented musicians will take the stage as part of this year’s songwriter evening in Cynthiana.
The event continues to attract diverse, professional musicians and has become a staple in the community’s yearly ART Walk – An Evening With The Arts.
This year’s slate of artists feature Brigid Kaelin, Carrie Johnson and Joel Henderson.
“I’m thrilled to have artists of this caliber participate,” said Nell Anne Gossett, the musical host.
Louisville songstress, Kaelin is part country, part vaudeville and all Americana.  Whether on piano, accordion, guitar or musical saw, Brigid has charmed audiences all over the world with her music and entertaining live show.
She’s been called “the Bette Midler of Alternative Country” and was voted “Best Singer/Songwriter” in Louisville for the past three years.
Brigid has performed with Peter Searcy, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Seven Mary Three and Garrison Keillor on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion.
She has just returned to Kentucky after touring for a year and a half in The United Kingdom.
Carrie Johnson, also brings her rich alto voice and songs to the night.  Johnson, an avid musician and prolific songwriter, is preparing for the release of a new album for The Velvet Blue an alternative bluegrass band.
She has opened for artists such as Dale Ann Bradley, Lost & Found, III Time Out, John Cowen, The Spinney Brothers and The Grascals.
Joel T. Henderson combines folk, country, blues, gospel, and classic pop with equal reverence, but his music is distinguished by “deceptively simple” song craft that suggests a noble intent to update the American standard.
Henderson melds timeless melodies with deeply true-to-self, yet universally relatable, lyrics. Jeffrey Lee Puckett of Louisville’s Courier-Journal described Henderson’s work as “the kind of observational songwriting that only sounds this easy when done at a high level.”
Henderson has shared stages with acts like country music star Toby Keith and Grammy-nominated Americana songstress Kim Richey, and has provided tour support for the incomparable and exquisite Over the Rhine.
The songwriter event will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 27,  and will be held at The Chamber of Commerce building, located at 201 South Pike Street in Cynthiana.
The easy access, and cool environment will provide the perfect setting for audience members to experience an intimate evening of acoustic music.
“A wonderful thing happens when songwriter’s music and personal stories collide, “ says Gossett.  “It’s just magical!”
