Harrison County Superintendent of Schools Andy Dotson said Tuesday that a pre-school child was left on the school bus on the morning of Thursday, April 18 and that the personnel matter with the bus driver has been addressed.
Dotson said the child wandered across Webster Avenue from the bus garage near the construction area at Harrison County High School where he was shuttled into the school. He was picked up by Southside principal Steven Fowler around 9 a.m. and taken to his class.
Dotson said the child told school officials that he had fallen asleep and did not wake up until the bus was already away from Southside, where other students were delivered between 7:50 and 8 a.m.
Dotson said that bus drivers are trained to inspect their buses once the route is completed in the morning and then again in the afternoon.
