Perhaps the most recognized military events in Harrison County history were the raids by John Hunt Morgan and his Raiders on Cynthiana during the American Civil War. However, renowned Kentucky historian Kent Masterson Brown, claims that it was another battle that has also piqued his interest.
“I regard this as one of the most critical sites of Kentucky’s Revolutionary War experience,” Brown said of Ruddles Fort, which is on the banks of the South Fork of the Licking River near Lair, on property now owned by Dunny and B.T. Darnell.
