Showing your teacher appreciation

-A A +A
By R.J. Palmer

To the editor:
If you appreciate the knowledge you have acquired over the years, you should show your gratitude to a teacher. The mere fact that you can read this letter means you should thank a teacher -- and what better time to do that than during National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6.
Plato said, “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life.” That is so true – because who, other than perhaps parents or guardians, have more influence on the life of a child than that of a teacher. I can think of no profession more important than that of an educator. A teacher has the awe-inspiring task of preparing the minds of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. The work of our teachers, along with their support staff, is immeasurable.
Henry Adams said, “A teacher affects eternity. He can never tell where his influence stops.” Teachers provide the foundation for unlimited possibilities in the minds of our children. I am grateful to all of today’s educators – as well as those who have taught before them – for the dedicated work that they do. I am extremely grateful to the teachers who helped to mold my life and to influence me to become the man I am today. I hope everyone who reads this will join me in saying “thank you” to a teacher who has made a difference in your life. National Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday, May 3 – a perfect day to express your gratitude to a special teacher.

Sincerely,
