Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton returned home last Friday after undergoing triple-bypass heart surgery last Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
“I feel good,” Hampton said over the phone Tuesday morning. “I’m just limited in what I can do.”
At age 57, Hampton said he visited his family doctor after experiencing some shortness of breath.
Hampton said he was referred to a heart specialist and underwent a stress test and heart catheterization that proved he needed to have heart surgery.
“I was fortunate I didn’t have a heart attack,” Hampton said.
Hampton said heart problems ran in his family.
“His recovery is going well,” said Hampton’s wife Roseanne. “He’s got to get his strength back.”
Hampton said he is unsure when he will return to work.
“I don’t want to come back until I am able to be back and do the job right,” he said. “...But I’ll be back.”
Hampton said he appreciated the community’s concern.
“I would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful cards, calls and prayers,” he said. “Sometimes you never know what people think of you until you’re down.”
