Shepherd joins Democrat staff as news writer

The Cynthiana Democrat is welcoming a new member to its news team.

James “Josh” Shepherd of Carlisle.

He will be filling the news writer’s position left vacant by Ben Hyatt, who is moving to Florida.

Shepherd, 48, is a former contributing writer to the Carlisle Courier and The Lane Report. 

He earned his bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and a masters of fine arts in writing from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

His first job was writing for the Carlisle Mercury. He has since worked for the University of Kentucky before coming to The Cynthiana Democrat and has been a freelance journalist.

Shepherd and his wife, Pam, serve as a host family to foreign exchange students. Their current host daughter, Lea Buchel, is attending Nicholas County High School.

Shepherd will be covering county government as well as writing features and hard news stories.
