The November General Election is fast approaching. While much media hype has been centered around the Presidential Election, there are important races on a more local level as well.

One such race will be that of electing four Cynthiana City Commissioners. Only two incumbent candidates will be on the ballot. However, they will be joined by five new candidates. There is also one official write-in candidate who has filed the proper papers with the Harrison County clerk.

In an effort to help voters make their decisions, The Cynthiana Democrat will be hosting a candidate forum on Monday, Oct. 20, at the Harrison County Extension Office at 7 p.m.

The forum will be devoted to the Cynthiana City Commission race. Each of the eight candidates have been invited to participate.

The candidates will be asked questions by panelists Becky Barnes, editor of The Cynthiana Democrat, and Gary Brunker, former Cynthiana City Commissioner.

Charlie Garnett, financial center manager/vice president at Fifth-Third Bank, will serve as moderator for the evening.

Voters are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Voters can participate by submitting questions for consideration by Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008. Those may be submitted to Barnes at her e-mail address bbarnes@cynthianademocrat.com, mailed to The Cynthiana Democrat, P.O. Box 160, Cynthiana, KY 41031, or delivered to the office at 302 Webster Ave.

Questions will not be taken from the audience on the night of the forum.
