Letters were sent home with students on Friday reporting that a second incident of MRSA had been confirmed in Harrison County schools.
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotic methicillin.
According to Dee Gee Fischer, assistant superintendent, administration was not notified of the case until the student returned to school.
She said the Harrison County Middle School student was out of school the required seven days and brought a doctors note confirming the diagnosis.
