One morning I was having a cup of coffee and reading my Bible when I heard the sound of a large truck. Then it hit me. I forgot to take the trash cans out to the street.
It was trash pickup day. The truck had already passed our house.
But I went to the window and noticed that the next door neighbor’s trash cans had been knocked over by a dog and trash was everywhere.
It was taking the trash pickup man a while to pick it all up. I felt sorry for him, but then it hit me. I may be able to get my trash cans out to him after all. So I went out back and grabbed our trash cans, and ran them out to the truck.
Another time I was at a very large event. There were about 10,000 people there.
One evening, a man approached me, asking for some help with food. I wasn’t very kind to him and later felt really bad about it.
I prayed for a second chance to talk to him. It would be a miracle with that many people in attendance. You guessed it. I ran in to him later and was able to make things right.
Isn’t God like that. He will give us a second chance. Someone years ago said that He is “the God of a second chance.” Think of the prodigal son in Luke 15.
The father there, is like God is with us. He not only forgave his son and gave him another chance, but ran to him and embraced him when he came back home. Think of Simon Peter after he denied Christ three times. The Lord forgave him later and gave him another chance.
The Bible says in Lamentations 3:22,23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Psalms 103:8 says, “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”
I’m so glad God gives us a second chance. I am so thankful for His grace and mercy.
