witnessing history Nearly 60 visitors from Kentucky, Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan visited Harrison County on Saturday as part of a two-day tour that centered on Daniel Boone and the Opening of the American West. The group stopped in Harrison County to view the site where Ruddles Fort once stood. Now the farm of Dunny and B.T. Darnell, historian Kent Brown, who led the tour group, called Ruddles Fort and the invasion that occurred there in 1780, one of the most important events in Kentucky history. Also at the Darnell farm is the Lair vault, which was built along the Licking River in 1845 and bears the inscription “Please Do Not Disturb The Remains of The Sleeping Dead.” See next week’s Cynthiana Democrat for more on the history of Ruddles Fort and Daniel Boone tour.
