When ‘Mine That Bird’ crossed the finish line at Saturday’s 135th running of the Kentucky Derby, Harrison County High School ROTC students were 10 feet away from history in the making.
“I’ll never forget it,” said ROTC flight commander Ashley Sadler. “Who has a chance to get that close?”
While ROTC members have been serving at the Derby for years, this year, uniformed members served as the finish line honor guard.
“We were about 10 to 12 feet from the horses,” said Chief William Blackburn.
