Cynthiana Idol had its beginnings in 2008 at Rohs Opera House. The idea behind Cynthiana Idol was simple: provide a showcase for local singers and ride the popularity of American Idol. It is hard to believe that 2013 will mark the the sixth season of this local show. To celebrate, Rohs Opera House is hosting Cynthiana Idol: Night of Champions on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
All five former winners are scheduled to perform and compete for a cash prize. “It’s going to be a great night of music as all five winners bring something different to the table,” stated Roger Slade, host and one of the program’s creators.
The winners, listed in order of the season they won are: Taylor Vallandingham, Johnathan Allison, Savannah Ecklar, Hayley Mansur and Mason Jessie. Each Idol will perform three songs with one song being a choice from the year they won.
Also appearing will be the past and present judges from the five seasons. The judges won’t be judging, but will be on hand to add feedback to the contestants. The audience will be 100 percent responsible for determining the winner.
Laura Stephens was one of the original judges and has judged every performance of every year. When asked about Cynthiana Idol she said, “Each year Idol continues to grow. When we get to the final rounds there are some very talented singers. I am looking forward to seeing who wins this. It will also be nice to just watch the performances and not have to critique anyone.”
From Country to Pop and from Indie-Folk to Rock, Night of Champions promises to be a great night. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the show will be rescheduled. Call 234-9803 if you are unsure of the weather that night.
