The State of Kentucky has made littering punishable by up to a $500 fine and or 12 months in jail. A fine and hours of community service such as picking up trash by the roadsides is the most common punishment designated by the courts. Citizens can enforce this ordinance by reporting the offender to the police (859-234-7100) in the Cynthiana city limits, or if outside the city limits, the sheriff (859-234-7135) and providing the following information:
