Soon the turkey bones will be discarded and the Christmas decorations will be taken down on at least most homes and the Antioch Upward season for 2009 will be starting.
The first practices start the week of Monday, Jan. 5 with leagues from kindergarten/first grade through fourth/sixth grade.
But before the league starts, the Upward program requires each child to go through an evaluation process for both cheerleading and basketball. The information gathered that night will allow the directors of Antioch Upward to divid teams as evenly as possible. Evaluation nights will be as follows:
•Friday, Nov. 7, 6-8:30 p.m. for kindergarten and first grade.
•Friday, Nov. 14, 6-8:30 p.m. for second and third grade.
•Friday, Nov. 21, 6-8:30 p.m. for fourth through sixth grade.
Every Upward athlete must attend one evaluation period. If you cannot attend the night scheduled for your child’s grade level, simply choose a night that is more convenient for you.
Cost for both cheerleading and basketball is $55 through the early registration period ending on Nov. 27. Cost after Nov. 27 is $65. Registration ends on Jan. 5.
Each child will receive instruction concerning basketball and/or cheerleading as well as Christian lessons about God’s love.
For basketball, each player will also receive an Upward reversible jersey, an Upward basketball t-shirt, an Upward car magnet and an end-of-the-season reward. Cheerleaders will receive a cheerleading uniform, car magnet, megaphone, pom-poms and matching hair ribbon.
