A Cynthiana woman died hours after being struck by a car as she crossed Church Street headed for a doctor’s appointment Monday afternoon.
Judy Snedeker, 55, left her car in the parking lot at the corner of Pleasant and Church streets and she headed across the street to Dr. Rick Arnold’s office, according to Sgt. Wilbur Gross of the Cynthiana Police Department.
At 1:35 p.m., 19-year-old Elijah Whitson, driving a 2009 Toyota Scion, was turning left from Pleasant Street onto Church Street when he was distracted by his dog.
Whitson told police he had stopped at the stop sign and continued to make the turn when he saw nothing in the road or approaching.
However, when he looked back up and saw Snedeker, he could not stop in time to avoid hitting her.
Gross said it appeared that Snedeker had not crossed at the intersection.
“It was just an accident. She just walked out in front of him,” Gross said, noting that no charges would be filed in the case.
Snedeker, who lived at 508 E. Bridge St., was transported to Harrison Memorial Hospital by Brown Ambulance Service and then on to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she died around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday.
