Paul is next family court judge

Pendleton County proved to be the swing in the hotly contested 18th Judicial Circuit Family Court judge’s race.

As election results began to pour in Tuesday, it appeared Peter Newberry would walk away with the judgeship, replacing David Melcher who is set to retire.

However, when Pendleton’s results were posted, it was Morgan resident Barbara Paul who took the race by a margin of 775 votes over Newberry.

The 18th Judicial Circuit includes Harrison, Pendleton, Nicholas and Robertson counties.
