Operation SEND (Sending, Encouragement to our Nation’s Deployed) community wide event will be held Nov. 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Harrison County fair grounds. Everyone is welcome to come and help pack the donated items.
Materials can be brought that night or dropped off at: Aurora Information Systems, 105 Joe B. Hall Court, Cynthiana, KY 41031, phone (859) 234-8353. The event is sponsored by Cornerstone Christian Church and Military Missions. There are already about 100 addresses of folks from the 201st and other units serving from Harrison County.
Donation ideas are: Snack items like hard candy, snack bars, gum, dried fruit packages, Lifesavers, sunflower seeds, Trail Mix, crackers/cookies, Slim Jim, and beef jerky. Snacks should be individually wrapped (small snack sizes).
Suggested drink items are: Coffee singles, tea bags, hot cocoa mix, and individual drink mix for bottled water (Crystal Light, Kool Aid, Wal-Mart brand, etc).
Personal care items: Eyeglass/lens cleansing wipes, eye drops, nasal drops/saline spray, foot powder, tissues (pocket size), Chapstick/Blistex, socks (worn in combat boots), and baby wipes,
Other items are: Bibles (pocket size), electrical or duct tape, playing cards, travel games and small toys items to hand to children.
Also needed are Ziploc bags in gallon, quart and sandwich sizes to make the packages. Several personal notes and cards will be included with each box. Consider writing a few notes of encouragement for our troops.
Postage donations are greatly appreciated. Cost is approximately $10.88 per box to send.
