A quarterly review of local health statistics showed that out of 21 tests of umbilical cord blood from infants born at in the maternity ward at Harrison Memorial Hospital, approximately 38 percent came up positive for some kind of opiates. This was one of several alarming statistics that David Melcher, retired district and family court judge, cited Monday night during a public forum on local drug abuse hosted by Champions for a Drug Free Harrison County.
