No spring break for HC students

In a special session last Wednesday afternoon, the Harrison County School Board voted to use spring break as make-up days for school missed due to winter weather in January and February.

Harrison County students have missed 22 days as of March 5, the most in the past 20 years. The closest number of missed days during that time frame is a three-way tie at 17 in the 1993-94, 1995-96 and 2009-10 school years.

In order for Harrison County Schools to meet their required 170 six-hour days and also end school on June 6, Dotson said the school has to use spring break.

School will also be in session on March 21 and 28.

If no other days are missed, the school system will still observe Memorial Day as a holiday weekend, Superintendent Andy Dotson said.
