Eblen will be guest at Writers’ Conference

The fifth annual Writers’ Conference opening session will feature one of central Kentucky’s most outstanding journalists, Tom Eblen, Lexington Herald-Leader columnist.  The class, “Words in the Universe”  will begin Friday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Licking Valley Campus.
Eblen is a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he was editor of the College Heights Herald.  He spent five years working as a statehouse reporter in Nashville and a correspondent in charge of the Knoxville bureau at the Associated Press. Next, he worked at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution where he had a variety of jobs such as regional/national reporter, a business reporter and editor, and an Olympics reporter and editor. Eblen returned to his hometown in 1998 and was the Herald-Leader’s managing editor from 1998 to 2008.
He has two daughters, Mollie and Shannon, with his wife, Becky.
“One of the things I love about my job is that I get to go places and see things that most people don’t,” Eblen said.
