* Cynthiana Democrat, Oct. 1960 - “Who will buy Monticello and why? These are the questions in the minds of many Cynthianians two days before the palatial residence comes under the auctioneer’s hammer Saturday. The sprawling three-story, 27 room Victorian mansion will be sold by Cummins, Renaker, Whalen and Smith realty and auction firm at 10 a.m. on the premises. Monticello, built in 1883, is a Cynthiana landmark and was once a ‘showplace of the Commonwealth’ by the late Dr. Henry Bromley, who with Mrs. Bromley, held it until their deaths.
