* Log Cabin, Feb. 17, 1899 - “The most reliable thermometers in Cynthiana showed that early Monday morning the temperature had reached the very low point of 36 degrees below zero, and Cynthiana seems to have been about the coldest point in the state. Two government test thermometers, used by the distilleries for taking the temperature of beer, registered at 36 below, while a similar thermometer at another point registered 35 degrees below at eight o’clock Monday morning, and it was possibly even colder before daybreak.
