* Cynthiana Democrat, June 29, 1939 -- “Belmont Bridge Completed and Opened - Residents of Belmont and the western part of the county were permitted to cross the Licking River at Pleasant Street for the first time in almost a year Saturday when the new concrete bridge constructed by the State Highway Department at a cost of $61,000 was opened to the public. First automobile to cross the span was driven by R.B. Whaley who was accompanied by Mayor John M. Cromwell, Commissioner Charles L. Robinson and W. C. Endicott, Chief of Police George M. Dickey, and James S. Whaley.”
