Local agencies have been hard at work to ensure the 149 Vertical Engineering company feels right at home in Afghanistan.
In May, the Harrison County Soldier Support Group began requesting items for the 149th Vertical Engineering Company based out of the Cynthiana National Guard.
Through the help and support from local businesses and citizens, items have been collected for the military care packages to be shipped to Afghanistan in the next few weeks.
Over 1,000 items have been collected for the troops so far. However, the drive will not end just yet.
The Soldier Support Group is sponsoring a Pork BBQ fundraiser luncheon on Friday, June 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harrison County Courthouse.
The minimum donation will be $5 for a sandwich, chips, dessert and drink. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase items or assist with shipping.
The support group will continue to receive donations such as snacks, toiletries and entertainment items. For a full list of recommended items to donate contact Judge-Executive Alex Barnett at 859-234-7136, Kathy Brown at 859-234-2702 or Michele Fulton at 859-588-0049.
If anyone wishes to make a monetary donation, checks may be made payable to Soldier Support Group, care of BankTrust Financial, P.O. Box 38, Cynthiana, Ky 41031.
Those wishing to donate items may drop them off at the Harrison Memorial Hospital Marketing Department, Cedar Ridge Health Campus, or Harrison County Judge-Executive Office at the Harrison County Courthouse.
