Though there has never been a question that the log building in the courthouse square is one of the most historic structures in downtown Cynthiana, historians in recent decades have disputed earlier accounts that the building was ever used as a courthouse.
The reason researchers from the last five decades have voiced doubts concerning older historic accounts about the log building boils down to a simple lack of evidence, explained Richard Anderson, local historian and the log building’s current owner.
