Lack of police in town needs explanation

To the editor:

I would like to know how a city as big as Cynthiana does not have enough police officers to do a police escort for a funeral.

You see, my stepdad, Mr. Eugene Dryden, was laid to rest on Nov. 16 of this year. On the day of his funeral, as we were leaving the funeral home to proceed to the Battle Grove Cemetery to lay my Dad - as I called him for 20 years - to rest, I asked Mr. Jim Drake where the police department was to give us an escort to the cemetery. He said that they were called and said they were short on help and if they could they would be there. Well, to my shock, no one was there to give my Dad an escort or the respect that I thought you were to get for the final ride.

I don?t know if there is a problem with the police department as in a shortage of officers or what the problem is, but, I was really upset about the situation not to mention shocked that we had to try to go to the cemetery and get through four way stops and lights and not get hit by another car.

I would just like an explanation for the reason that this happened and so would my mother and the rest of the family. I feel that someone from the mayor?s office needs to explain to me and my family why this happened and a apology would be very nice.

Christmas Angel sponsors are a blessing for the whole community

To the editor:

I would like to sincerely thank the individuals who sponsored my children (#227 and #228) through the Christmas Angel Tree Program.

We are very grateful for your generosity and kindness. It is so touching to know that there are people out there who truly care about others -- not to mention the gifts were perfect. Merry Christmas.

There are many good things to enjoy in this Cynthiana and Harrison County

To the editor:

Recently, I enjoyed a wonderful program of music at First Christian Church.

The next night, I went to First United Methodist Church (of which I am a member) and witnessed a program ?Hanging of the Greens.? It was a very moving program.

We are fortunate to have such talented people in our community.

We do so much grumbling concerning the state of our nation, state and community, let?s take to appreciate these very special events.
