Let’s not forget the arts

-A A +A

To the editor:
I would like to thank the Cynthiana Arts Council, Maysville Community College, The Cynthiana Democrat and the Licking River Writers for sponsoring, promoting and hosting the 2011 writing contest and recognition reception, showcasing the works of the finalists.
The reception was such a delight. There were so many excellent writers in attendance. I was particularly impressed with and awed by the young writers. Such talent and imagination. I certainly hope these young writers will be encouraged, inspired and supported throughout their years to come.
Harrison County and Kentucky are so well populated with talented writers. I am thrilled to know a number of them personally and to know that so many of them live within shouting distance of Cynthiana is a real bonus.
So often our community celebrates athletic activities and achievements. This is all well and good, but we all are not athletic and one can only participate effectively for a limited number of years. The Arts can be performed and enjoyed for a lifetime. We need to celebrate these activities and their participants far more often and far more vigorously. Congratulations to all the 2011 writing contest finalists. I hope you will come back next year and bring even more friends and fellow writers along. Thanks to all involved.
