Kinney presents program at DAR meeting

The Cynthiana Chapter of the DAR met in the community room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Regent Melinda Rawlings called the meeting to order.
The DAR Ritual, Pledge of Allegiance and the American’s Creed were recited followed by singing the Star Spangled Banner.
Parker Groves from Northside Elementary School was introduced. He read his winning essay on the life of Paul Revere. Betsy Clyde presented Parker with the DAR American History Medal and a gift.
Sarah Kinney gave a well-received presentation on ‘Jack Jouett’s Ride’ in 1781 during the Revolutionary War.
Judith Gatling is a new member of the Cynthiana DAR and papers were signed for Ellen Longshore of Alexandria, Ky.
Judith Rawlings read the President General’s message. Minutes of the Feb. 12 meeting were read and approved.
Mary Mac Barnett was elected to attend the NSDAR Convention this summer.
Cynthiana DAR received certificates for 100 percent participation in the President General’s Project and the State Honor Roll. Marilyn Robertson, Pam Muirheid, and Wilma Bonar received certificates for attending the State DAR Convention for the first time. Every chapter was recognized for participating in the Veterans’ hospital project for new-born babies. In lieu of library fines, the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library accepted articles for this project.
The next meeting will be held in September.
