A Harrison County couple and their grandson are recovering following a tragic accident over the weekend that claimed the life of their niece.

Larry and Roselyn Jones of Connersville Pike, their grandson Sterling Wayler of Lexington, and  niece Shawna Ishmael were on their way to a family Christmas gathering in Indiana on Saturday morning.

According to a family member, a vehicle came from behind the vehicle driven by Ishmael, to cross three lanes of traffic to exit I-275 at Whitewater Township in Ohio. Their vehicle was tapped from behind and that sent them into a spin that ended with their vehicle striking a utility pole.

Larry Jones, retired minister from Boyers Chapel United Methodist Church, has multiple injuries, but could be released Wednesday or Thursday. He will be going to stay with family as he recovers.

Roselyn Jones suffered three broken vertebrae as well as a broken arm.

Their 14-year-old grandson is also recovering from multiple injuries.

The family member said they are all out of ICU and now in stable condition.

Funeral arrangements for Ishmael were unavailable at press time.
