It's good to be in Harrison County this weekend

-A A +A
By Becky Barnes

This weekend is going to be one of those that if you can’t find something to do in Harrison County, it’s your own fault.
There truly is something for everyone Friday through Sunday.

There’s something for the sports enthusiast, the gardner, the supporters of the arts, and aviation and car admirers.
Once, every so often, there are weekends so chock full of activities that it’s impossible to get to everything. This is going to be one of those.
And, if those things aren’t enough, there will be families helping their juniors and seniors prepare for the Saturday night prom.
Friday night kicks off with Alumni Night on the Hilltop. The Harrison County Thorobreds will be hosting former players and coaches as well as inducting former coaches Jim Schmidt and the late Ronnie Earl to the Fence of Fame. That will take place at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Breds taking on Lewis County at 6:45 p.m.
There is also sure to be some more celebration of Coach Mac Whitaker earning his 1,000th win.
Friday will be opening night for Dearly Departed, a Rohs Opera House production that will begin at 7:30 p.m. Encore performances will be on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Also on Friday night will be the Humane Society’s fundraising Dinky McGowan Magic Show. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the Harrison County High School auditorium.
On Saturday morning, the 45th annual Harrison County Track Invitational will take place at the Athletic Complex beginning with field events at 10 a.m.
Saturday morning will also be the first leg of the Chamber of Commerce’s Triple Crown of 5K races.
Earth Day Race Day registration and packet pick-up will be held at the Cynthiana Harrison County Airport, 582 Airfield Lane beginning at 7:30 a.m. The race is at 9 a.m.
The Cynthiana Democrat’s Home and Garden Show will also get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Burley Marketing Co-Op on U.S. 27 North.
It’ll take a canned good to get in or a $1 donation, all of which will go to the Harrison County Food Pantry.
There will be nearly 70 booths to browse through as well as the popular food court offering sweet and savory dishes.
The Home and Garden Show will also be open Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, the annual Aviation Day and Cruise In will begin at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport. Admission is free.
The CynCity Line Dancers will perform at 1 p.m.
Again, there are numerous things to do this weekend.
