The Harrison County Middle School cheerleaders traveled to Winchester Saturday to compete in the Bluegrass Conference cheer competition and came home the big winners.
The contest was held at Conkwright Middle School with all of the area middle school cheer teams on hand to make for a challenging day.
The Harrison County girls placed first in the small division and their score in that performance gave them the best total of the day which placed them ahead of all teams in all divisions.
This included small, medium, large, super large and co-ed squads that were competing on this day.
The Harrison County Middle School cheerleaders also won the Region 10 competition in December and placed seventh in the state competition in January.
“Regardless of how my team placed at their competitions, I am so proud of how the girls have progressed this year,” Coach Mackenzie Whalen commented on her girls’ performance. “They have put in many hours of practice to achieve their success. Since tryouts, my team has become physically and mentally stronger. They do not give up as easily as they once did and are much tougher. They have learned to push through the little injuries, which is half the battle of coaching a young team.”
The members of the Harrison County Middle School team are: Morgan Barker, Electra Mastin, Emily Northcutt, Evey Barker, Emma Shaekley, Madison Shanklin, Sarah Allison, Savanna Austin, Miranda Barnes, Lillie Cook, Maria Furnish, Mary Hollis Partin, Marleigh Posey, Courtney Russell, Jacqueline Smith, Abby Stroub, Payton Walker, and Macy Yearsley.
