HCHS Tennis splits with St. Patrick

Lose to Bourbon, defeat Grant and Mason

The Harrison County tennis teams were busy on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday playing matches with St. Patrick’s, Bourbon, Grant and Mason counties.
Wednesday evening the Thorobreds rolled over the Saints of St. Patrick by a 3-0 score as the visitors forfeited two matches.  
Luke Pawley defeated Evan Kalb 8-3 and Florian Caroff beat Logan Kalb 9-7 in the singles matches.  
Luke Bradford and Austin Merriman defeated the Kalb duo 8-5 in the doubles competition.
The Fillies lost to St. Patrick’s girls 2-3.  
Sara Ann Ledford lost 2-8, Savanna Hedges lost 1-8 and Sabrina Goins won 8-4 in singles play.  
Casey Newcomb/Sara Ruth Besson won their doubles match 8-4, but Emmalee Lutes and Melony Dunaway lost 2-8 for the final 2-3 score.
On Thursday, the Harrison County squads played host to the Bourbon County Colonels and Lady Colonels losing by a 2-3 count in both matches.  
The Thorobreds won the first two singles matches with Jacob Markley winning over Daniel Cooper 6-1, 6-1 and Boston Pergram easing passed Jon Creamer 7-5, 6-3.  
Luke Pawley lost 2-8 to Nick Wren, Caroff lost 5-8 to Wesley Shiflet and Isiah Stiltner dropped his match to David Derenge 0-8.  
The doubles matches did not go any better as Matt Seevers/Constantin Hellar lost to Griffen Cain/Alex Hern 2-6, 3-6 and Bradford/Merriman dropped a match to Hunter Bowman/Coleman Keding 7-9
The Fillies number one singles player, Bryson Clifford, won 6-0, 6-0, but she was the only singles winner for Harrison County’s girls.  
Gracie Roberts fell 8-9, and Savanna Hedges lost 4-8.  
The Fillies won two of the doubles matches but still lost the match 2-3.  
Ledford/Faith Gant won 6-4 and Melony Dunaway/Lutes won 9-8 in a close one.  
Alycia Schaum/Alexis Lanza lost 4-6, 3-6, Abby Cooper/Reagan Gorman lost 3-6 and Newcomb/Besson lost their match 4-8.
On Friday, the tennis squad split up with the boys hosting Grant County and the girls traveling to Mason County.  
The Fillies swept the Lady Royals winning all five matches.  
Clifford won 6-4, 6-4, Roberts won by the same 6-4, 6-4 and Lanza won 8-0 in singles play.  
The doubles matches were won by Schaum/Lanza 6-1, 7-6 and Dunaway/Lutes 8-5.
The Thorobreds won all three matches sweeping the Braves as did the Fillies sweep Mason County.  
Pergram won his match 6-0, 6-0, Bradford won 6-1, 6-2 and Stiltner took his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
