Twenty-one-year-old Danyell Kearns is dead after an early Tuesday morning car collision on US 62 East, about 10 miles from Cynthiana.

At approximately 8:20 a.m., Kearns was traveling west in a 1995 white Pontiac Grand Am when she struck another vehicle and traveled down an embankment.

“It looks like she drove off the side of the road and over corrected,” said Harrison County Deputy Sheriff and Accident Reconstruction Specialist Dean Hutchison.

Hutchison said Wednesday morning he was unsure what caused Kearns to drive off the side of the road and strike a vehicle driven by Amber Espinoza, 21.

While the collision remains under investigation, Hutchison said slippery and wet road conditions could have been a factor.

Kearns was transported to Harrison Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Espinoza was also transported to HMH, where she was placed in stable condition and discharged later Tuesday.

There were no other passengers traveling with Kearns or Espinoza.

Kearns was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Kearns is the daughter of Tony and Andrea Kearns.
