Harrison County may be in the running for another addition to its industrial base.

At last Thursdays meeting of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Economic Development Authority, board chair Dr. Ed Ford reported that the state economic development cabinet has intervened to assist in enticing a company to open a facility here.

They (the cabinet) have a policy that if a local entity contacts an industry first, then they will follow up on it, he said. Since our last meeting, they have contacted the parent office in Japan and also in Michigan.

Ford said the cabinet has assigned someone specifically to aid in the process.

Thats progress, thats something I didnt know they would do, he said.

Ford said the company is looking to build a research facility which could employ as many as 100 people.

He added that he forwarded information on an incentive package from another state so the cabinet could possibly try to compete.

Theyre working on it for us and hopefully something will come of it, Ford said.

He said the type of jobs brought would be higher paying.

In other action, the board:

Heard a progress report on the EDAs website, www.cynthianakyeda.com. The board discussed possible advertising alternatives to promote the site.

Frazer Lebus was given permission to explore the issue and a budget of up to $1,000 to pursue it.

Accepted the report from treasurer Larry Judy. Judy reported that the EDA had a balance of $46,099.15.
