-A A +A
By Cheryl Case

The Harrison County Community Health Fair is coming up next week. Mark your calendars now for Thursday, April 12 at the Harrison County Middle School. The Health Fair begins at 7 a.m., but if you come later in the morning the lines will be a lot shorter, especially for the blood tests. If you take medication take them with a small amount of water, don’t skip taking them. The blood test is a fasting blood test, so do not eat or drink anything, except your medicine, after midnight. It is over at 11 a.m.
We know parking is a problem. Park wherever you can find a spot and enter the school by the back entrance near the gym.
All the test and screenings are free. They include screenings for: allergy and asthma, blood pressure, blood test to check cholesterol, and triglyceride, blood sugar and PSA for men. There is a blood fat analysis, cardiac risk assessment, diabetes risk assessment, facial sun screening, and flexibility and grip screenings. There will also be kidney disease screening, massage therapy, osteoporosis screening for women over 40, Pulse Oximetry and breathing capacity, stroke risk assessment, Varicose Vein screening(for this you will be in a private room, but wear easy to remove pants or slacks so the entire leg can be seen.
New this year: complete blood count – a blood test that checks for anemia and other blood disorders. Also new is oral cancer screening by Dr. Jason McIllvain. More than 20 educational exhibits and additional screenings will be available such as foot screening, sleep problems, stroke, colon cancer and many others.
Don’t miss the “Ask the Doctor” feature. Physicians will be available to answer health-related questions. Besides Dr. Mashburn with the allergy screening, Dr. Victor Lawson – sun damage, Dr. Hamid Mohammadzadeh – varicose veins, Dr. William Crowe – urology, Dr. Kim Willis – emergency medicine, Dr. Karl Schulstad – surgery, John Cook – ardiology and Licking Valley Internal Medicine and Pediatrics will be there. Not all physicians can stay all morning. If you need to see a specific one call Sally at 235-3500 to ask if a specific time has been set.
Don’t miss your chance to win gas gift cards. At registration you will get a “passport.” Visit the number of required booths, drop your card off before you leave to be entered in the drawing. You do not have to be present to win. Winners will be notified.
